FAQs FOR MATERNITY, NEWBORN & BABY SESSIONS

Below are some common questions I get asked. If you have any questions about what I offer and my services which is not covered below, please contact me

(1) I would like to book a Newborn Session - when should I book and how?

If you would like to book a newborn session, it is ideal if you contact me around the time of your 20 week scan and provide me with your due date. However, please feel free to contact me at any stage of your pregnancy. If you are reading this and your baby has already arrived please message me anyway and i'll see what I can do to accommodate you.

To secure your session I require a £50 deposit upfront (non refundable). Once your deposit is received I will pencil your due date in my diary and that way, I can ensure that I have session availability for early, on time and late arrivals... simple!

(2) I'm pregnant, when should I book my Maternity Session?

Congratulations! It is best to contact me at the beginning of your second trimester. This allows us plenty of time to agree a date during your third trimester when you are in full bloom. However, if you are reading this and already into your third trimester please feel free to contact me and I'll see what I can do. Maternity Sessions can either be done at my garden studio in Thame or outdoors on location.

(3) How much do your sessions cost?

Please contact me directly for session costs.

I provide a variety of affordable options/packages which can be tailored to achieve exactly what it is you would like from a session with me.

My examples of packages can be found here

With my pricing there are no hidden costs as everything is agreed in advance. Within the photography industry, there is an unfortunate tendency towards offering low session fees and then charging high amounts for the images afterwards. That is certainly not my approach as I believe that families should be able to afford all of the images that we have spent time capturing.

(4) How soon should I contact you after my baby arrives?

I appreciate that your newborn session will not be your first thought as you recover and settle into having your new baby. Therefore, I do not expect parents to do this immediately, but ideally, within 3-5 days after your baby has arrived. This helps me ensure that I can book you in within your baby's first 5-14 days which generally is the best time to capture them.

(5) When is the best time to do a newborn photography session?

The best time to do a newborn session is generally within the first 5-14 days of their arrival. This is simply because they are the most sleepy and naturally culled up which allows for those lovely curled up, squidgy baby images you see in my porttfolio.

Within a matter of weeks a baby becomes much more alert and strong, which can make it more difficult to get those beautiful snoozy squidgy baby images. However, all babies are different and therefore due to a variety of reasons it is sometimes not possible to do the session within the first 14 days. If this happens it really is not the end of the world!

(6) Where do you do your newborn sessions?

Last year I moved from one end of Thame to the other and as result, I lost my beloved garden studio where I did my sessions. The exciting news is that we (well my handy husband!) are currently building a new one which is due to be ready for business again in September 2019! In the meantime this means I've been visiting and doing my sessions at clients homes which has worked great!

(7) How long do newborn sessions take?

The length of a session varies a lot depending on the baby.

My sessions are super relaxed & fully baby-led and therefore, we will go with the flow of the baby in a relaxed and calm way. As all babies are different, a session typically lasts anything from 1.5 - 3 hours. This provides plenty of time for feeding, soothing & settling.

Parents often panic if their baby starts crying or wont immediately go to sleep during a session but that is completely normal. Sometimes (albeit rarely) a baby starts the session asleep and stays asleep the whole way through but usually a baby needs a bit of gentle encouragement.

(8) How many photographs do I get?

The amount of images you receive is dependent upon the type of package you choose. You can explore these packages by clicking here.

(9) How should I prepare my baby for a newborn session?

I will send you an informal preparation guide via email prior to our session which provides lots of useful tips and advice, based on my experience of what can help achieve the best result from a session.

(10) What do I need to bring and wear to a newborn session?

The essentials:

  • Your baby (obviously!)

  • A bottle of milk/formula (if not breastfeeding)

  • Nappies

I also suggest that parents wear plain, neutral coloured clothes (black or white tops) as this looks more classic and timeless in the photo's. It is also a good idea to have a spare top & trousers ready... just in case we have any accidents!

(11) What do I need to bring to a Sitter Session

The essentials:

  • Your baby (obviously!)

  • A bottle of milk/formula (if not breastfeeding) or snacks (if weaning)

  • Nappies

  • A few outfit changes
